The story so far…

Handprints Magazine is a Bristol based community magazine which is aimed at the parents of babies, toddlers and pre-school children. It’s A Guide to life with Under 5’s in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, Bath and North Somerset created by two local business women and mums Lisa White and Lucy Smith.Handprints Magazine began as a small local community publication to support a charity ladies night to raise funds for a baby and toddler group.  With an idea of creating a local guide for new parents Lisa and Lucy joined forces and worked together to create their first edition in September 2008.  Printing just 2000 copies it was distributed throughout Bradley Stoke, Little Stoke, Patchway and Filton. Fuelled with their passion to provide access to information to new families in their community Lisa and Lucy sold advertising space, wrote editorial features, set up a distribution network for pre-orders and created a professional glossy full colour community magazine in just 6 weeks – all with no previous experience of magazine publishing or advertising sales.  Just 18 months later Handprints Magazine now distributes 18000 copies across four counties and has become a household name in parts of Bristol and South Gloucestershire. In winter 2009 they launched a new version in South Bristol and North Somerset and third edition in Bath in Spring 2010. The vision for the magazine has always been very important to Lisa and Lucy and this is their mantra in everything they do…

“We want to increase access to activities, information and resources to new families and we want to produce a local guide that is relevant to our readers and their community. We want to become a link between local groups, classes, clubs, retailers, small businesses, employers and most importantly our readers – you. We want to reach those in the community who need support the most.”

Handprints Magazine’s motto for 2010 is “Aim Higher!” Lets hope it works….
